Your home is probably the biggest investment you’ll ever make, both financially and emotionally. Putting your own personal stamp on a house is what makes those four walls your home. It’s your own, private space to fill with all the things you love and really put your mark on it. But, it can be a little daunting trying to work out what colours go together, where to put signature pieces, and just how to make your house your home. So, I’ve put a few tips together to help you make the most of your home.
Invest in furniture you love
If you can afford to, it’s really worth investing in high quality furniture that you fall in love with. Whilst you might not want to splurge on furniture for the kids rooms (why bother when it’s likely to get wrecked), there are some items it’s worth saving up for. A good dining table and a chunky sideboard might be all you need. Think about investigating local auctions and for sale sites. You might find something you can upcycle to really give your home a personal touch.
Personalise with pictures
Put up photos of people you love in pretty or eye-catching frames. You could create an instagram-inspired feature wall in your living room, or even up the stairs. Choose photographs that conjure up happy memories of those nearest and dearest to you to make your home a happy and loving place.
You can also use prints and paintings to add personality to rooms. Think about whether you want to adopt a colour scheme and use pictures to emphasise that. Go for warm colours in bedrooms so that they’re happy and relaxing places to be.
A simple way to add a touch of personality, is to use textiles and soft furnishings. A few well-chosen cushions and throws can make a massive difference. The choice of styles and colours is incredible these days and you don’t need to spend a fortune to make a big impact. This can work particularly well in the bedroom. Layer the bed with a bedspread, runner and various cushions for a luxurious feel.
I hope this has given you a little insight on how you can make your house feel more like a home with just a few simple steps.
