If you know that you need to save water around the home or if you know that you are not happy with the water usage that you have right now then there are a few things that you can do about this. Take a look below to try and get some great ideas.

Shower Bucket

Don’t let your water pour down the drain. After all, you can easily put a bucket under the faucet when you are waiting for your shower to heat up. If you want, you can easily use the water to try and flush the toilet or even for watering your plants. If you do this then you can easily make the most out of the water that you have and you can also stop perfectly good water from going to waste. Little things like this can really make the difference when you are trying to save water and it is a fantastic way for you to really put a stop to your bills going up all the time.

Turn off the Tap

It’s so important that you are able to turn off the tap when you brush your teeth. Water comes out of your average faucet at around 2.5 gallons every single minute. Don’t let the water go down your drain just because you are brushing your teeth. Wet your brush and then leave the tap turned off as you rinse. This is a fantastic way for you to really save water not just for now, but for the long-term as well. You also need to make sure that you are turning the tap off while you wash your hands. Think about it, do you need the tap to run while you are scrubbing your hands? Turn the tap off and keep it there until it is time for you to rinse your hands.

If It’s Yellow…

This may not be the nicest thing to think about but the toilet is really one of the most intensive fixtures around. Do you really need to flush it every single time you go? Probably not. When you avoid flushing the toilet. You can save a ton of water and you can also really make the most out of the bills that you have. If this is not for you then you don’t have to worry because at the end of the day, there are so many other ways for you to save water and this can really make a difference to your bills.

Fix All of your Leaks

It’s so important that you fix all of the leaks that you have in your home. You can hire a plumber or you can even try and do it yourself. When you DIY you can save huge amounts and most of the time, you won’t even need to put a lot of effort in either. You can replace the washer or you can put some waterproof tape around the pipe if you want. This will make it much easier for you to save on your water bills and you would be surprised at how easy it is for you to really benefit from such a small effort.

Save your Pasta Liquid

When you put hot water in with your pasta, you may be able to reuse it at a later date. Instead of dumping it down the drain, try and drain it into one large pot. When you have done this, you can then let it cool and use it to water your plants. This may not be a good idea if you salt your pasta, but if you dump boiling water on your plants then this will kill them so make sure that you give it chance to fully cool down before you take any steps toward using it.


Go to the Car Wash

If you feel obligated to wash your car then it is so important that you take it to the car wash. Some car washes tend to recycle the car water rather than you having to wash it at home with the hose. You should try and use a car wash that offers this as a service because if you do then you may find that you save a lot of money and you may even find that you are able to cut back on the household bills that you have as well.

Have Shorter Showers

Old shower heads use as much as 5 gallons of water every minute. This can cause you major problems if you are not careful so if you do want to try and accelerate your savings then you need to try and invest in a much more efficient showerhead. Of course, you should also note that older toilets use up a lot of water. Spot Leaks

If your water bill happens to spike then there is a good chance that you have a leak. If you cannot spot any around your home then check your water lines as well. When you do this, you can easily make the most out of your savings and this is a fantastic way for you to stop wasting water unnecessarily. After all, there is no use in trying to save water if you are not able to stop the sources of wastage.
