Sure, it’s technically spring right now. But as we get deeper into the month of June the days are getting longer, brighter and warmer and where there was once a steady stream of gloom and drizzle outside our windows there now emanates rays of glorious golden sunshine. You’re most likely capitalising on this seasonal cheer. You’re getting out more, seeing friends more and taking every opportunity you can to catch some rays of nourishing sunlight. But when you return home your summer mood slumps because your home decor still hasn’t shrugged off the gloom of winter. It’s time to inject some light, colour and cheer into your home! But don’t worry, you don’t need to spend a fortune on new bedroom furniture or throw out your perfectly good dining table. Most of the time all you need is a little fabric, a few rudimentary tools and just a little imagination to bring your home to life with seasonal cheer…
Nothing injects a little cheer into the home like flowers, but no matter how well you look after them, real flowers inevitably wilt and die. Why not keep the spirit of spring and renewal alive by making some felt flowers? All you need is some felt, a pair of scissors, and a glue gun. If you don’t have a glue gun, they’re a worthy investment. Just check out these art and crafts glue guns and you’ll see just how affordable and versatile they are. Felt flowers add cheer to any room, they can be assembled quickly and easily and they can be attached to windows, walls, shelves or just about anywhere. Check out the tutorial here.
White is alright
With so much natural light entering the home you’ll want to capture and enhance the sense of optimism and positivity streaming into your home along with it. If your furniture is looking a little drab, now might be the perfect time to bring it to life with a simple coat of white paint. This will reflect the incoming light and even make your room look bigger.
Don’t crowd your windows
Once again, your greatest asset here is completely free and that’s the incoming sunlight. But for it to be effective, you need to ensure that it’s allowed to come into your home unimpeded. Heavy curtains and drapes are great in the colder months when we need to conserve heat, but as spring bleeds into summer we need to ensure that we use only light and airy fabrics and keep them tied back so that they don’t restrict the sunlight coming in. Opt for light and airy fabrics like chiffon and light, bright colours and watch your room transform.
Master the power of accent pieces
Unless you happen to be a millionaire, you’re unlikely to be able to rotate your furniture with the changing seasons. Instead your best bet is to opt for neutrally coloured furniture which is good for all seasons and adjust your accent pieces accordingly. Accent pieces can be cushions, vases, plant pots or throws. Opt for bright primary or pastel shades and be wowed by the added vibrancy in the room.
So, it’s possible to rejuvenate and revive your home while spending less than the cost of a night out!
