The worldwide web is an incredible resource. It’s hard to remember what it was like before we had the internet readily at our fingertips. When I think back to my childhood, the internet wasn’t even a thing that most people had. It was only as I entered my teenage years that we started to get access to dial up internet and chatting to our friends online started to become more common. Over recent years, chatting to people online has become an increasingly popular way to get to know people – particularly for the younger generation. But are the over 50s making the most of the resources available to them?
The internet is jam packed full of apps and websites designed to entice online daters in. But the truth is that many of these sites are aimed at the younger generation. However, senior dating sites are also staking their claim over the dating world too – and rightly so.
Whilst the over 50s didn’t grow up with the internet at their fingertips, they do still want access to the online dating world. And more and more people seeking senior dating encounters are signing up to sites dedicated to their age group.
But, are the over 50s actually making the most of the online dating opportunities that are available to them?
I’m not sure that they are!
I think that part of the issue is that the over 50s just aren’t aware that there are websites out there specifically aimed at their age group. They wrongly assume that the online dating world is purely dedicated to the twenty somethings. That’s simply not true! There are plenty of online dating sites for the over 50s to explore.
Also, I think the internet can be daunting for some over 50s. They’re worried that they might click on the wrong thing or break something when it’s just a simple case of taking their time and perhaps asking for help if they’re not sure about how to access the world wide web.
Another issue for the over 50s wanting to get back out into the world of dating, is that they don’t know where to start. With the internet being such a global thing, they simply don’t know how to go about finding people in their local area. I think some of the over 50s are worried that the people they might speak to could be on the other side of the world, when what they really want is to meet somebody local who they can get to know face to face.
In actual fact, there are lots of websites dedicated to over 50s dating in local areas – aberdeen dating, bedfordshire dating and belfast dating are just three examples, but there are sites like those for pretty much every corner of the United Kingdom.
To sum up, I don’t think the over 50s are making the most of the online dating opportunities available to them – but the barriers that stand in their way are often purely in the mind.
